| Construction is Under Way!

View from Denny Way looking NW to Fairview at Zone 4. This shows that the elevator core and the surrounding columns have been poured to their first lift stage. We now have vertical concrete members in place to support the first floor in this Zone. The project is split into 4 zones or quadrants, each containing one elevator core. The work is progressing sequentially counting down from Zone 4 (The corner of Fairview and Denny) through to Zone 1 (The corner of Fairview and John Street).

View from the corner of Denny Way and Minor Ave. looking NW across the site with Zone 3 in the forefront. This is a view of the contractor pouring the large mat footing for the Zone 3 core elevator tower. Note that the mat footing they are standing on as they are placing the concrete is 5 feet 6 inches deep. Besides the mat footing, additional spread footings and strap beam footings were poured at the same time resulting in a pour consisting of over 1400 cubic yards of concrete. The contractor utilized two large pump trucks with each pump being fed simultaneously by two concrete trucks. The pour took over 150 concrete trucks and was completed in about 6.5 hours of continuous placement.

| View standing on Fairview Avenue looking north toward John Street. This is a view of Zone 1, the last quadrant in the construction sequence. The contractor is performing the last structural excavation for the footings in this zone. The structural excavation is completed in Zones 2, 3, and 4. Most of the footings are “neat cut” excavations to save costs in excavation, hauling, forming, and backfilling. Upon “neat cutting” the footings, the contractor then sprays a light coating of concrete on the soil to keep it stable during the placement of the structural steel reinforcement. |
