“We first heard about Mirabella Portland from my parents Irene and Dan Hunter. A couple of years ago, we were traveling through China with them and they told us how excited they were about their upcoming move to a CCRC called Mirabella Seattle. They told us all about the lifestyle it offered, the Continuing Care Plan, and about how it was a place for people who were active and excited about life. It sounded very interesting to David and I, and so when we got back home, we looked it up online. It was then that we learned Pacific Retirement Services was building another Mirabella right here in Portland!
“We were very familiar with Pacific Retirement Services because it owns another CCRC in Portland: Holladay Park Plaza. Which, as it turns out, is where David’s father has lived for more than 11 years!
“So, in learning that PRS was building a new CCRC in Portland, we decided that we wanted to live at a PRS community also. We attended the next informational presentation and signed up as Charter Members of Mirabella Portland. Now we’ll all be living in PRS communities. I think they should give us a family discount!”

“My wife and I had two sets of neighbors in their 80s who were resisting moving to a retirement community. Then suddenly, a health crisis hit for each couple and when they tried to find a place they learned there were waiting lists for even the substandard places. It was not an ideal situation by any means. That got my wife Sharon and I thinking about moving to a place while we could still make choices for ourselves. We saw an ad for Mirabella Portland, went to a presentation, and we knew we’d found what we’d been looking for.
“For us, Mirabella Portland offered everything we were looking for: it’s a CCRC with health care on-site, it’s close to transportation, and it’s close to our children. But the big bonus for us was learning how PRS was going to manage the place. They really respond to resident input. The more we learned, the better it got.
“I’ve now gone to several Charter Member meetings and events and I’ve met so many interesting and congenial people. That’s very important to me because I’m a people person. Where I live now is a very pleasant neighborhood with nice neighbors, but I’m looking forward to having more daily interaction with fellow residents once I move to Mirabella.

“Helen and I first heard about Mirabella Portland from friends of ours who live at Rogue Valley Manor in Medford, Oregon. They raved about the wonderful lifestyle they enjoy at their community and recommended that we contact Mirabella and put our name down to enhance our future years.
“We love the views offered by that of our present home in the hills—it overlooks Portland State University and downtown Portland. So at Mirabella Portland, we selected a North-facing apartment that overlooks the Willamette River and downtown Portland. We ended up putting two middle apartments together on the 28th floor, and have reconfigured them to accommodate our needs.
“The most important reasons we’re moving to Mirabella Portland are: 1) the comfort of living alongside others in our age group; 2) the knowledge that the community is owned and operated by an organization that has proven over many years that they have the ability to keep residents comfortable and happy as they age; and 3) the fact that we are moving to a brand-new complex. We also believe that it will be very convenient living so close to public transportation and that there will be many benefits being so close to OHSU.
