Construction is Under Way!

August 27, 2009

construction photo

The above photograph shows the Mirabella site on Sunday, August 23, 2009, as the tower crane is in the process of climbing to its final construction height. Following the addition of eight mast sections (one section placed on Saturday August 22 2009, seven sections placed Sunday August 23 2009), Mirabella’s tower crane is now approximately 430-feet in free standing height from the top of the Garage Level (basement) footing to the top of the mast. This view is from the southwest taken from the corner of SW Moody and SW Gaines looking northeast, from the 22nd floor of the Riva building.

This is a close up view as a mast section is added to the tower crane. Each mast section is approximately 19-feet in height. A “climbing frame” raises the mast via hydraulic jacks, which creates an opening by which a mast section is carefully inserted and secured into place. Once a new mast section is secure, the process repeats until all mast sections have been added.

The above photo shows Mirabella with the tower crane, which has been raised to its final height! This photo was taken on Thursday August 27 2009 as the level-19 post-tensioned slab has just been poured. This aerial view is from the northwest and is taken from the 15th floor observation deck of the OHSU Center for Health and Healing.

Work continues on the Elizabeth Caruthers Park which is adjacent to Mirabella. The above photo shows the progress of the park, which is scheduled to open later this fall (2009). This view taken from the 15th floor of the OHSU Center for Health and Healing building gives a glimpse into the future of the South Waterfront and how two of its newest additions (Mirabella and Elizabeth Caruthers Park) will add to the community.

This view is of the south (courtyard) side of the tower of Mirabella, taken from the level-5 community patio. The window wall system is now being installed at the tower through level-8 this is visible in the center of the above photo. The pink color (visible above) is exterior insulation. This will be completely covered by CCP (cementitious composite panel) at the balcony alcoves and CSMU (stone façade) at other locations.

Interior finishes continue at various stages from level-2 through level-6. The above photo show installed cabinets with a recently installed granite slab countertop and backsplash at a level-3 apartment home with additional finish work (millwork, doors, door hardware, electrical fixtures, plumbing fixtures and flooring) to follow. Cabinets and casework have been delivered through level-6 of the podium (south).

This view is of the west facing side of Mirabella, taken from SW Moody Ave, looking past the construction of the Elizabeth Caruthers Park which is scheduled to open later this fall. The Mirabella sign (center right of photo) has recently been placed on top of the podium at the south west corner of the building. This sign is not a permanent fixture; it will be in place throughout construction of the project.
