Construction is Under Way!
May 28, 2009

Another beautiful day in Portland as Mirabella continues to climb skyward! The level-10 post-tensioned slab formwork is underway. This aerial view is from the northwest and is taken from the 15th floor observation deck of the OHSU Center for Health and Healing. At the bottom right of the picture, the City of Portland continues construction on the South Waterfront Neighborhood Park which is likely to open late fall of 2009.

This view is from the southwest at the corner of SW Moody and SW Gaines looking northeast, taken from the 22nd floor of the new Riva building. The Willamette River is sparkling in the center of the photo. While at the upper left of the photo Mount St. Helens can be seen in the distance.

This bird’s eye view is of the northwest corner of Mirabella. In the foreground, the Construction Hoist, also known as the Man Lift, is being assembled (orange exterior elevator). This will be used as transportation for workers and materials during construction. As the tower climbs additional sections of mast will be added to the Construction Hoist. This will allow access to additional floors as the tower rises. The mast is connected to the concrete slabs using a mast tie and is secured with wall brackets and anchor bolts.

This view is from the northeast corner of SW River Parkway and SW Curry Street looking southwest. Exterior metal stud framing has reached level-4 of the tower (center of the photo). Exterior gypsum sheathing, the yellow portion of the façade system, has been placed up to level-4. This is quickly covered by a vapor barrier, the black portion of the exterior façade, visible through level-2. Formwork is now underway for the level-10 post-tensioned slab on the tower, this is visible at the top right of the picture. The majority of the temporary forming system panels have been removed through the underside of the level-8, while the yellow shoring poles have been partially removed, but still visible on the upper floors.

This view of the southeast corner of Mirabella shows windows placed through level- 6 of the south east quadrant. The large window sections visible on level-3 through level-6 are examples of the window wall system with spandrel glass. The window wall system on level-2 is also known as a punched opening. The window system on level-1 (lower left) is a curtain wall system. Also visible on level-2 (lower left) is exterior insulation (pink portion of exterior), which will soon be covered by CSMU. CSMU (calcium silicate masonry unit) will be the final component to the exterior façade at this location.
