Construction is Under Way!

Mirabella’s tower crane grows 80 feet in one day! The photograph above shows the fourth of four additional vertical sections being added to the mast of the tower crane being utilized to construct Mirabella at South Waterfront on Saturday, January 24, 2009. Each mast section is approximately 20-feet in height. A “climbing frame” raises the mast via hydraulic jacks, which creates an opening by which a mast section is carefully inserted and secured into place. Once a new mast section is secure, the process repeats until all mast sections have been added.
BEFORE - The photograph above shows the Mirabella at South Waterfront site on Friday, January 23, 2009, the day before the tower crane is to be ‘jumped’ or increased in overall height. Initially, Mirabella’s tower crane was approximately 195-feet in height from the top of the Garage Level (basement - not visible in the above photograph) footing to the top of the mast.
AFTER - The photograph above shows the Mirabella at South Waterfront site on Saturday, January 24, 2009, as the final of four new mast sections is being inserted into the climbing frame. Following the addition of the four mast sections on this day, Mirabella’s tower crane is now approximately 275-feet in free standing height from the top of the Garage Level (basement) footing to the top of the mast. Mirabella’s tower crane will be increased in height one final time during the course of construction to a final position height of approximately 410-feet from the top of the Garage Level (basement) footing to the top of the mast. Increasing the tower crane’s height again will require that its mast be braced to the structure of Mirabella’s Tower, which will occur at Level 18.
Ongoing Mirabella jobsite activity continues to be robust. The photograph above shows post-tensioned concrete slabs poured through Level 5 at the Podium or southern half of the jobsite, with Level 6 in the formwork and utility rough-in stages. At the Tower or northern half of the jobsite, the western quadrant of the post-tensioned concrete slab at the Ground Floor (Level 1) has been poured, and the central and eastern portion of the Ground Floor slab is in the final stages of preparations leading up to the slab pour. Beneath the Ground Floor and not visible in the above photograph, the Garage and Storage Mezzanine Levels are 100% poured with installation of plumbing infrastructure underway. Visible above the Ground Floor slab are partially-poured columns at the northwestern quadrant, and reinforcing steel and forming systems in progress for columns and shear walls at the north-central and northeastern portion of the Ground Floor. The distinct profile of Mirabella’s Tower will soon be taking form as its structure begins to rise above the Ground Floor.
