Construction is Under Way!
November 8-17, 2008

A bird’s-eye view of the Mirabella construction site from the northwest. Visible in the above photograph is the largest concrete pour that will occur during the entire project, in progress. On Saturday, 08-November-2008 over 2,500 cubic yards of structural concrete were placed for the tower structure’s structural base, located at the northern half of the site. This monolithic pour consumed approximately six hours, involved four boom pumps, and a continuous rotation of nearly 300 concrete truck loads to supply this huge quantity of concrete.
At the center of the above photograph, placement of shoring systems formwork for the Level 2 slab at the southeast quadrant of the site is ongoing; the concrete pour for this section of slab will occur a little over a week following the date of this photograph, on 17-November-2008.

View of the northern half of the site from the eastern edge, looking westward. The placement of structural concrete for the massive monolithic slab (six feet thick), serving as the base for Mirabella’s tower element is shown in progress in the above photograph.
Completion of the slab for the tower base is a major milestone allowing subsequent work to erect vertical structural components at the northern half of the site to commence.

Structural components for Mirabella at South Waterfront are now visible above street grade. Specifically, the Level 2 slab for the building’s Podium element (southern half of the site) is shown partially poured in the above photograph. The above view of Portland’s South Waterfront District looking southward from the 15th floor eco-terrace of the OHSU Center for Health & Healing shows jobsite activity at the lower left-center of the photo continuing steadily forward.

A bird’s-eye view of the construction site from the northwest. A structural concrete pour for the southeast quadrant of Level 2 has just been completed (center in photo). Preparations for the Level 2 slab pour at the southwestern quadrant of the site continue; work on vertical structure (columns and shear walls) will continue tomorrow on top of the Level 2 southeastern quadrant slab, just poured. At photo bottom-center, placement of reinforcing steel and formwork for columns, shear walls, and garage ramp walls is underway on top of the monolithic slab for the Tower base (poured 08-November-2008). Foundation backfill is largely complete at the northwest and northeast corners of the site.

View across the Mirabella site from the northeast corner looking southwestward. Formwork for the garage ramp walls is visible in the immediate foreground, while reinforcing steel for vertical structure (columns and shear walls) is visible in various stages of placement throughout the northern side of the site, particularly on the monolithic slab base for the Tower. In the photo background, shoring systems for the southern (Podium) halves of the Ground Floor and Level 2 post-tensioned concrete slabs are visible. The red cables hanging from the edges of the decks are the tendons for the post-tensioned slabs (steel cables sheathed in red plastic for high visibility).

View of the northern half of the site from the approximate mid-block of the eastern edge, looking northwestward. The thickness (six feet) of the monolithic Tower base slab is visible at the lower left corner of the photo. Rough-in for under-slab electrical conduits is visible at the lower right in the above photo. In the photo background, center and right, preparations on the northern shoring wall for shotcrete is in process (waterproofing membrane is in place and placement of reinforcing steel is in process); shotcrete was applied at the central section of northern wall on 20 and 21-November-2008.
