Construction is Under Way!
November 1, 2008

Mirabella at South Waterfront construction has benefited from crisp, mostly dry fall weather through October. The above view (taken 27-October-2008) of Portland’s South Waterfront District looking southward from the 15th floor eco-terrace of the OHSU Center for Health & Healing shows jobsite activity at the lower left-center of the photo progressing steadily forward.

A bird’s-eye view of the construction site from the northwest. A structural concrete pour for the southeast quadrant of the Ground Floor (Level 1) is in progress. At photo bottom-center, placement of reinforcing steel and perimeter edge formwork for the mat slab (tower foundation) is in progress. An all-day concrete pour for the mat slab is scheduled for Saturday, 08-November, during which an estimated 3,000 cubic yards of structural concrete will be placed. Grade beams and pile caps visible at photo lower left were poured 27-October. Remaining excess soils (primarily lower right in photo) will be used for foundation backfill.

View of the northern half of the site from the eastern edge, looking westward. The footprint for the tower’s mat slab footing is defined by the reinforcing steel placed to-date, as well as the surrounding formwork underway (left and background in photo). Pile caps and grade beams poured on 27-October are visible in the immediate foreground.

Concrete pour for the southeast quadrant of the podium Ground Floor (Level 1) is shown in progress during the morning of Saturday, 01-November (view is from the southern edge of site looking northwest). This is the first major post-tensioned concrete slab pour on the project; the red-sheathed tendons are visible straddling the reinforcing steel. Typically, pending the concrete reaching required compressive strength, the tendons will be stressed three days following each respective post-tensioned concrete slab pour.
