Construction is Under Way!
October 13, 2008

Portland’s South Waterfront District looking southward from the 15th floor eco-terrace of the OHSU Center for Health & Healing. Jobsite activity at Mirabella (lower left-center in photo) continues steadily forward.

A bird’s-eye view of the Mirabella construction site from the northwest. The third major slab-on-grade concrete pour is taking place (October 13th) in the southwest quadrant of the garage level. This third pour completes the majority of the Garage Level slab at the southern half of the site. Erection of shoring systems associated with the first elevated deck pour (the southeast corner of the Level 1 / Ground Floor) also began on this day (the pour is anticipated to occur near the end of October). Placement of driven grout pilings, approximately 96% complete, continues at the northern half of the site, with completion targeted later this week.
Upon completion of the final driven grout piling, both the continuous-flight auger rig and the pile driving rig will be demobilized from the Mirabella jobsite. Once these rigs are removed, remaining excavation and removal of excess soils (including the earthen access ramp) will occur at the northern half of the site, and foundation systems work will be completed.

View above from the southern half of the Mirabella jobsite, looking northwestward. The third slab-on-grade pour is in process at the southwest quadrant of the jobsite (photo foreground, left). Concrete mixing trucks and the boom pump rig are staged off of SW Bond Avenue, which borders the western edge of the Mirabella site. This third slab-on-grade pour comprised approximately 285 cubic yards of structural concrete. Following the above pour, approximately 2,300 cubic yards of structural concrete have been placed to date, including foundation footings and pile caps, three separate garage slab pours, and several Garage Level columns and shear walls.

View above at the southeast corner of the jobsite showing the start of the placement of shoring systems to be used to place the Level 1 (Ground Floor) elevated post-tensioned concrete slab. The concrete pour for the southeast corner of the Ground Floor slab (the first elevated deck pour on the project) is targeted to occur at the end of October.
