Construction is Under Way!
September 2008

Viewed on August 29, 2008 from the top (30th) floor of The Ardea, an apartment tower two blocks south of Mirabella, and looking past the John Ross (right) the 360-ton all-terrain mobile crane (yellow) is set-up and prepared to erect the tower crane, the parts and pieces of which will arrive at the jobsite on Saturday, August 30th. The smaller (white) crane was used to erect the various components (counter-weights and lattice boom extension) on the 360-ton mobile crane. The base section for the tower crane is visible in the foreground of the above photograph; the base was placed and its footing poured on August 25th.

Viewed from the 15th floor eco-terrace of the OHSU Center for Health & Healing, located two blocks to the northwest of Mirabella, erection of the tower crane is in process on Saturday, August 30, 2008. In the above view, the final tower sections for the tower crane are nearly in place, with the erection of the horizontal boom and counterweight pending, to occur later this same day.

The Mirabella jobsite (above), visible four days following erection of the tower crane. The tower crane will be utilized by the general contractor and subcontractors to hoist and stage equipment, materials, and building components over the next several months. The tower crane will increase in height (by adding vertical sections) twice during the construction of Mirabella, based on the sequence of construction of Mirabella’s 30-story tower.
Also visible in the above photograph: the placement of driven grout pilings continues, excavation for pile caps and grade beams is underway, and the earthen site access ramp (at the mid-block of Curry Street) is soon to be relocated westward to the corner of Curry Street and Bond Avenue, which will allow completion of driven grout pilings at the northern side of the site.
