Construction is Under Way!
July 7, 2008

Following the July 4th holiday, Mirabella at South Waterfront is into the eleventh week of on-site construction activities, and work continues at a productive pace (visible at lower center-left in the above photograph).

A bird’s-eye view of the Mirabella construction site from the northwest. Perimeter shoring system work is substantially complete (excluding the application of shotcrete onto the lagging wall surfaces, which is sequenced to occur later during the construction schedule), with the stressing of the final tie-back occurring on July 7th. Mass excavation is approaching approximate 75% completion and is being sequenced to coordinate with the placement of geo-textile and rock base (see approximate center of photo, above), as well as the pending equipment mobilization and set-up for driven grout pilings, scheduled to commence in mid-July.

The above view towards the southeast corner of the site shows the ongoing placement and grading of a ¾-inch minus rock base over a geo-textile membrane. Mobilization and set-up of driven grout piling equipment, and staging of rebar cages and other materials are anticipated to begin later this week. The commencement of driven grout pilings is anticipated in mid-July.
Visible in the above photo are the two differing shoring wall systems used on the project: the large-profile shoring pile with sheet pile combination used along the southern (right in photo) edge of the site (tie-backs were not allowed on the southern edge due to the immediate adjacency of the neighboring building wall), and the traditional shoring pile, lagging wall, and tie-backs combination used along the eastern (left in photo), northern, and western edges of the site. The white container at the middle-left of the photograph is the temporary groundwater de-watering tank. Partially visible in the background from left to right are condominium towers Meriwether, Atwater Place, and John Ross.

The above view shows preparations for tension stressing of the cable tendons in progress at the final shoring wall tie-back to be completed. This final tie-back is located along the eastern edge of the site.
